A Place that's Easy To Love

CVB Communications Director Lori Campbell Baker (left)
presents local resident Sherry Colbeth with her "What I Love About the
Daytona Beach Area" prize package.

" I really love it here!" says Sherry Colbeth, an Ormond Beach resident who relocated from icy Maine six years ago. "I moved here primarily for the beach, but I'm really loving the variety of outdoor activities we have to choose from here."

Colbeth, winner of the CVB's recent "What I Love About the Daytona Beach Area" residents-only contest, is an avid photographer who also loves to rollerblade and play basketball.

Her prize package will provide plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. It includes: a 2-night stay at the Bahama House Hotel; a 2-night stay at the Best Western Aku Tiki; two signed and numbered prints by local artist Sandy Lloyd; 4 complimentary passes to the Waterpark at Daytona Lagoon; 4 complimentary passes for your choice of one activity at Daytona Lagoon (ie. go-karts, laser tag, miniature golf, rock wall or carousel); 1 Daytona Lagoon lollipop; and 4 passes to the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet. In addition, CVB merchandise includes: 1 beach towel, 1 baseball cap, 1 office desk kit, and 1 oscillating fan.

Take Five Survey Winner Announced!

The Thanks 2 You, Volusia winner
Lori Campbell-Baker, CVB and Mike Malik

The hospitality industry recently wrapped up its Thanks 2 You, Volusia! resident appreciation program, and our lucky Take Five Survey winner was Mike Malik of Daytona Beach. Mike was born and raised in the area, and he and his wife Leslie have three children. So, what do lifetime Daytona Beach residents love to do? 'I love the beach,' he says. 'Love to surf, love to fish.' Mike had plenty of opportunity to enjoy the beach as a child. Both his parents and his grandparents owned local hotels beginning in the 1950s. 'My grandparents owned the old Belvedere Hotel, and my father owned the Sage & Sand. That's where I spent most of my childhood.' How has this native's view of tourism changed over the years? 'Well, when I was younger, I really enjoyed Spring Break,' explains Mike. 'But now, I really like the way the focus is shifting toward families.'

For entering the Take Five Survey, which featured five quick questions about tourism, along with an opportunity to provide suggestions on tourism marketing, Mike and his family won a prize package. Included were: a FREE weekend getaway at the all-new Best Western Castillo Del Sol Hotel in Ormond Beach, restaurant coupons, CVB logo merchandise and free admission to the Marine Science Center, Daytona Lagoon's waterpark and the Museum of Arts & Sciences. 'This is great,' Mike said of the prize package. 'We've been to Daytona Lagoon, and my kids really enjoyed it. The restaurant coupons are great too - some of our favorite places to eat, plus a few I've been meaning to get to.' The CVB's next resident appreciation will coincide with National Tourism Week in May. Stay tuned for details!
