Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau

 

 Looking for some fun and affordable things to do with family and friends? Here are a few upcoming activities and events to consider:

My Big, Fat, Greek Cooking Class! - October 17, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. - The Casements - 25 Riverside Dr., - Ormond Beach -- Learn how to create a variety of yummy Greek dishes including feta cheese triangles, Greek salads, baklava and more. The cost is $25. For more information call (386) 676-3216.

Bandshell Live! - October 17, 1 p.m. - Boardwalk -Ocean Ave., Daytona Beach -- Enjoy live music featuring Bobby Friss Band, Fortunate Son (Credence Clearwater Rivival tribute band) and Mark Hodgson. Admission is FREE, however a $5 donation is greatly appreciated.

Dinner and a Movie - October 21, 7 p.m. - Daytona State College's Cafe 101 - 1200 W. International Blvd., Daytona Beach -- Enjoy dinner in the beautiful dining room and then settle back in a comfortable chair and enjoy The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This classic film, released in 1939, follows the deformed outcast hunchback Quasimodo who lives as a bell-ringer in the towers of Notra Dame's Cathedral. He is scorned by villagers but is shownpity and kindness by a beautiful gypsy dancer. For dinner prices and reservations call (386) 506-3859. Admission to the Southeast Museum of Photography's Madorsky Theater is by donation. Movie and dinner are available separately. Parking is FREE. Insiders' tip: Cafe 101 is also open for Sunday brunch 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Reservations are required.

Barktoberfest - October 24, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Halifax Humane Society - 2364 LPGA Blvd., - Daytona Beach -- This family event will feature a microchip clinic, pet photos, face painting, refreshments and music. Adult admission is $3; children and dogs are FREE. Proceeds benefit homeless or abandoned animals in Volusia County.
Insiders' tip: bring a can of pet food and you will be entered into a drawing for great prizes.

Boo Bash! - October 24, 1 - 6 p.m. - Ocean Walk Shoppes - 250 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach -- Enjoy kid-friendly trick-or-treating, monster mash dance, a kids' costume contest, a pumpkin carving contest, and even a "not so scary" haunted house. For more information call (386) 258-9544.

Hallogreen - October 31, 8 a.m. - 2. p.m. - City Island - Downtown Daytona Beach -- This event is an alternative to traditional Halloween festivities. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in games, activities, trick-or-treating, a costume party, "green" fashion show and more. This is a fundraiser The Fair Share Urban Garden Project, which serves to raise awareness of the three Gs of green: Good for people; Good for the planet and Good for communities. Michael Winslow Live! - Plaza Ocean Club - Main Ballroom - 640 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach -- This actor and comedian is best known as the "Man of 10,000 sound effects" and for his role in the movie Police Academy. For tickets or reservations call (386) 239-9800.


Time Out! - RiverGrille on the Tomoka - 950 N. U.S. Hwy 1, Ormond Beach -- This local favorite is celebrating Oktoberfest every day in October with an impressive selection of Bratwurst, Knackwurst steamed in beer and tangy sauerkraut, homemade German potato salad and a zesty selection of mustard dipping sauces. Plus, you'll get an Oktoberfest beer with the platter for only $12.99 or $9.99 minus the beer.
